1. How I'm Using My Brain's Algorithm to Create My DESIRED REALITY
Do you ever wonder why the moment you decide you like a certain car, you suddenly start seeing that car everywhere you go?
It’s like when I wanted a Tesla (way before Elonia Musty lost his mind), I would see them everywhere, then the moment I decided I no longer wanted that car, I wouldn’t see half as many as I did when I wanted one.
Or when you create a new goal, you start stumbling across opportunities, people, and ideas that align perfectly with it?
This is not a coincidence, it’s your brain’s algorithm, otherwise known as your brain’s Reticular Activating System (RAS) filtering the world around you.
You’re welcome. For the longest time, I never knew the correct term for it either, but I knew it meant something.
In this article, I will how you how to use your RAS to change and amplify your approach to manifestation.
What is the Reticular Activating System (RAS)?
Your RAS is a network of neurons located in the brainstem and what I call my brain’s filter, controlling what I focus on and what gets ignored.
Without it, we’d be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information we encounter every second of the day, from sounds and visuals to thoughts and feelings.
Imagine if every piece of content on Instagram or Tiktok appeared on your explore page. Total nightmare!
So, it gets filtered and edited to what it thinks you want to see the most, using the content you often engage with as an indicator.
To understand this a bit better, here is a simple breakdown of how your RAS is working:
Filters Information
Out of all the sensory information you’re exposed to such as background noise in the coffee shop before work, car horns beeping as you sit in traffic, the cute dog wrapping the lead around its owner’s leg and the reminder that you need to respond to your friend about brunch this weekend, your RAS decides what’s the most important.
Your RAS decides the background chatter isn’t important until a work colleague calls your name or you overhear a conversation about a topic that interests you.
If something aligns with your goals, thoughts, or beliefs, it gets flagged as significant.
Focuses Your Attention
The RAS draws your attention to what you think matters. This is why people who believe they’re unlucky often find evidence to support it, while those who believe in abundance notice opportunities everywhere.
For years I’ve told myself that because my star sign is ruled by the planet of luck (Jupiter) I am always lucky, and in most cases I am. Is that Jupiter, or is it my RAS? Maybe both.
Reinforces Patterns
Your RAS works based on the thoughts and beliefs you repeatedly feed it. The more you focus on something whether positive or negative, the more your brain identifies it as important and brings it to your awareness.
How the RAS Works Like an Algorithm
Think of the RAS like Instagram or TikTok’s algorithm.
The more you engage with certain content, the more similar content is shown to you.
Your brain works in the same way. Whatever you focus on becomes what you see more of.
For example:
If you think about starting a business, you’ll begin noticing conversations, social media posts, and opportunities related to entrepreneurship and other people who are also thinking of starting a business.
If you keep telling yourself, “I’m not good enough,” your brain will filter for evidence that confirms that belief, like missed opportunities, critical feedback, and disingenuous relationships.
This hit me hard when I first started my transformation journey.
Because I realised I’d been unconsciously training my brain to focus on what I didn’t want. Frustration, lack, and comparison.
Once I intentionally started feeding my RAS thoughts that aligned with who I wanted to become, I began noticing the shift.
How to Change Your Brain’s Algorithm
Thankfully there’s a way you can consciously reprogram your Reticular Activating System to focus on what you want.
Here are the steps that helped me transform the way I filtered my reality:
Get Clear on What You Want
Like any first step in transformation, you must be clear on your vision.
When I decided to create Coffee Moon, I wrote out what success would look like. From there, I started seeing content ideas, and mentors who had been teaching for years that I’d never even heard of before.
If your goals or desires are vague, your brain won’t know what to look for. Write down your goals in detail—what they look like, feel like, and how they will impact your life. never heard of, and opportunities everywhere.
Visualise Your Goals Daily
Visualisation is one of the most powerful tools for programming the RAS. Spend a few minutes each day vividly imagining yourself achieving your goals just before you go to bed when your mind is the most influenced.
Close your eyes and picture your dream outcome.
Feel the emotions tied to that success. How does it feel? What can you hear? What can you smell?
Repeat this practice consistently.
This is why vision boards work so well, they give your RAS a visual anchor.
Change Your Internal Dialogue
Remember what you say goes, which is wonderful, but only if you make commands that work in your favour.
If you believe yourself to be unworthy of your desires, the universe will not go back and forth with you, in fact, it will go to lengths to prove you are right.
Change the narrative. Your brain filters are based on your beliefs, so if you want to experience a shift in your story you have to create something new to read.
Changing Your Environment
The content you consume, the people you spend time with, where you go for a coffee, the hotels you stay in all matter because they create your thoughts and influence your RAS.
Make a conscious effort to surround yourself with aligned, positive influences.
Listen to uplifting podcasts that encourage you to become the best version of yourself.
Follow people who inspire you.
Stay close to friends who bring out the best in you
Avoid energy-draining conversations and distractions.
You are a product of your environment. This means what and who you surround yourself with will consequently result in who you are.
Finally
Your brain’s algorithm proves that what you focus on, you find. It’s constantly filtering your world to align with your beliefs, thoughts, and desires. When you consciously program your RAS, you take back control of your focus and start creating a reality that reflects your dreams.
So, ask yourself: What am I feeding my brain algorithm? Am I focused on possibilities or limitations?
And trust me, when you start aligning your focus, the results feel like magic.
