How To Make Your WINTER ARC Last All Year Around

With winter often representing a period of reflection, inner growth, and transformation. It's that quiet season where many of us naturally wind down, and close the final quarter of the year reflecting on who we are and what we want to change.

A growing trend on TikTok is a concept that is otherwise known as going through your ‘Winter Arc’ which means to start building the habits which cause your transformation, before the new year.

Something I have championed since the beginning of Coffee Moon.

But what if you could extend this ‘winter arc’ all year round, allowing your glow-up to happen, long-term?

In this article, I’m going to show you how to get past a trend and make your transformation last a lifetime!

1. Shift Your Self-Concept

Your self-concept is the perception you have of yourself, and in my experience, this is where real transformation begins.

I used to feel like society would pressure me to be reflective for a few months before I had to jump back into a busy, extroverted life.

But when I realised nothing had to be concrete and I could decide my own schedule to transform, I started asking myself deeper questions like:

  • Who am I when I’m at my best, regardless of external circumstances?

  • What beliefs am I holding onto that no longer serve me?

  • How can I be the same person in January as I am in June?

Shifting your self-concept starts with identifying the beliefs you have about yourself, challenging those that hold you back, and replacing them with empowering ones.

Start by writing down the current self-beliefs you have about yourself, and then rewrite them as the version of yourself you want to embody year-round.

2. Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind

Your subconscious mind creates around 90% of your daily life, meaning it’s easy to fall back into old habits once your "winter arc" ends.

This is something I noticed when I would feel super motivated during the autumn, only to find myself slipping by spring and falling back into my old version.

Consistency, consistency, consistency.

Reprogramming your subconscious is about consistency.

Here’s how I’ve been doing it:

  • Sleep Affirmations: I access my personal vault (which you can gain access to here) and play affirmations while I sleep. This has been a game changer because it works directly while my mind is in it’s most influenced state.

  • Visualisation: I visualise my dream life as if it’s happening right now. This is a daily practice where I imagine myself living the version of life I’m building, year-round.

  • Repetition: Doing this as a one-off isn’t going to move the needle. Repetition is how the subconscious learns. I repeat empowering statements about myself daily, making sure my new self-concept stays top of mind.

The more you align your subconscious thoughts with your desired self-concept, the more you solidify this transformation at a deeper level.

3. Regulate Your Nervous System

Something often overlooked when we look at transformation, is the importance of creating coherence between your heart and mind to signal to your brain that it is safe to enter creation mode.

I found that when I became overwhelmed or anxious, I would revert to old habits, even with discipline in place.

But keeping my nervous system balanced allowed me to stay calm and grounded, making my transformation much easier to attain long-term.

Some of the practices I use to regulate my nervous system include the following, which you can try too:

  • Meditation: It took me forever to become a fan of meditating, and even now I can only do 20 mins before I get bored. However, the benefits cannot be ignored. And after each session, I feel like a weight has been taken off my shoulders.

Whether it's a short 10-minute session or a longer practice, meditation helps me stay connected to my inner self and reduces anxiety.

  • Breathwork: I focus on intentional deep breathing, especially when I feel stress building up. Breathwork techniques help me release tension and reset my energy.

  • Singing: I’ve found singing to be an incredibly therapeutic way to release emotional tension. Singing not only lifts my mood but also helps me regulate my breath and nervous system, allowing for a natural release of stress.

Regulating my nervous system and adding it to my daily routine, keeps me aligned with the person I want to be, no matter what challenges arise.

4. Tackle New Habits

A big part of keeping your ‘winter arc’ alive is habit mastery.

During the winter, it’s easy to focus on self-care routines and personal growth habits, but as life picks up, sticking to those habits can feel like a challenge.

Reading Atomic Habits by James Clear was the turning point in rebuilding my habits which taught me that starting small and easy was the hack to building new habits that lasted a lifetime.

Here’s my approach:

  1. Start Small: I used to overwhelm myself with too many new habits at once, which led to burnout. Now, I focus on adding one or two small habits at a time.

I walk 5 times a week for an hour and a half to get my 10k steps, but it didn’t start like this. When I was building the habit, I did 20 minutes around the block, just to build up momentum and routine.

  2. Habit Stacking: Pairing new habits with established ones makes it all so much easier.

For example, I listen to a motivational podcast while I’m on my walk, a habit that’s already ingrained in my routine. That way I complete two features of my morning routine (mindset and movement, at the same time.

  3. Celebrate Wins: Even the smallest wins get celebrated. After successfully adding a new habit into my routine, I reward myself with something small - like a beautiful perfume haha.

5. Build Discipline

I used to think the key to success and seeing real changes was in motivation.

But the truth is, the real magic of transformation comes when we pair that energy with discipline.

Discipline is what makes those deep realisations and internal shifts stick longer than any social media trend ever could.

For me, discipline looks like setting non-negotiables and showing up for yourself, even on the days when you don’t feel like it.

I swore I was anti-routine, and sticking to the same routine wasn’t for me especially when the weather was cold and all I wanted to do was cosy on the sofa. But what would that attitude do for me in the long run?

Building discipline reminds me I am investing in my future self, the woman I want to be .

Here are a few things I do to stay disciplined to ensure my transformation happens all year-round:

  • Set a Daily Schedule: No cheat day. Even on weekends, I stick to my routine. My mornings are sacred, filled with habits that set me up for success, no matter the season.

  • Track Progress: Create a habit tracker, you can do this on platform such as Notion or if you prefer the traditional paper and pen you can use the same one which I use here.

I mark off every day I stick to my routines. There’s something rewarding about seeing a full week of boxes checked.

  • Create Accountability: I share my goals with family members or in my Facebook group to stay accountable. Knowing others are aware of my plans pushes me to stay consistent.

Building discipline is key to making sure your winter arc lasts longer than just a few months.

Finally…

Your winter arc doesn’t have to end when the weather changes. These practices have helped me stay aligned with the best version of myself, no matter what season I’m in, and they can do the same for you.
