5 Reasons Why I Double Down on My GLOW-UP Before the New Year

I’ve learned that waiting for January 1st to start a transformation is a trap.

Between the first few months of the year, I am in complete hibernation mode, and the last thing I want to do I teach myself new myself new tricks.

Instead of expecting a New Year’s resolution to magically transform my life, I use the last quarter of the year as the perfect time to double down on my glow-up and ensure that I enter the new year while I have momentum.

In this blog, I’m going to share the 5 reasons why I double down on my glow-up journey before the new year starts.

1. Your Future Self Will Thank You

One of the most motivating reasons to invest in your glow-up now is knowing how much your future self will appreciate the head start you gave them.

You can not beat the feeling of waking up on the first day of the year already feeling ahead of the game, instead of scrambling to set resolutions.

When I first started using the last quarter of the year, I noticed how much lighter I felt and more focused I felt as we approached the new year. It was like giving myself a head start, where I wasn’t burdened by pressure or expectations.

By doubling down now, you build momentum that will carry you through January and going forward.

This makes your goals seem less daunting to achieve and easier to attain because you’re already in the flow.

Here are some questions I ask myself which you can do too:

  • Reflect on how you want to feel in three months.

  • Ask yourself: what habits can I build today that my future self will celebrate?

  • Consider your glow-up as an investment in the person you are becoming.

The time will pass anyway.

Do something your future self will thank you for. By starting your glow-up now you are making a solid investment in your future self.

And when you prioritise your self-improvement and personal growth, you are laying the foundation for a more fulfilling and successful life.

2. Beating the “New Year, New Me” Rush

Every year, people flood the gyms, buy planners, and start fresh diets only to completely fizzle out of energy before February even begins. It’s a tale as old as time.

But by doubling down on my glow-up pre-’new year, new me season’ I can gladly say I do not have to participate.

Building your discipline and consistency pre-New Year’s Day allows you to escape the pressure of rushing to create change during a time when you should be at rest and not feeling like you’re part of the masses scrambling to make life changes.

By the time the new year arrives, you’ll already be in a routine, feeling confident and empowered, rather than overwhelmed.

Here’s how you can do this:

  • Start creating habits now so that you can maintain in the summer too.

  • Focus on consistency over drastic changes.

  • Enjoy the peace of making changes on your own terms, without external pressure.

3. Ending the Year Feeling Empowered

It’s easy to feel like the end of the year is a time to slow down, especially with Christmas (and my birthday 🎈) around the corner.

But there’s something incredibly empowering about finishing the year strong. I already use the first three months of the year to hibernate and go ghost mode which means instead of winding down, I leaned into the opportunity to push a little bit more before the year is out.

This sense of accomplishment, of knowing that I didn’t have to wait for January to start becoming my best self, was a game-changer.

You’ll feel more in control of your life, knowing that you didn’t just survive the year—you thrived.

  • Celebrate small wins and focus on what you can still accomplish before the year ends.

Rushing into the new year with lots of resolutions is often when we set ourselves up for failure by trying to change too much too quickly.

Focusing on your glow-up before January gives you the luxury of time to develop habits that actually stick.

For me, the habits I began towards the end of the year became part of my lifestyle because they weren’t attached to a deadline or resolution.

Starting the year as the person you’ve always wanted to be, rather than someone working towards that goal, is incredibly powerful. I certainly feel justified for slacking off while it’s cold outside.

Imagine the confidence you’ll feel walking into the new year, already embodying the best version of yourself.

This is the mindset shift that changed everything for me. Instead of looking at the new year as a time to start becoming someone new, I used the final months of the previous year to step into that person now.

By the time the new year arrived, I wasn’t chasing a goal—I was living it.
